New Porsche to have hybrid option

14/02/2006

Porsche's new four-door hatchback coupe scheduled for launch in 2009 will be designed from the start with the option of a hybrid engine.
Porsche board member Wolfgang Duerheimer said the large sports car would be built to serve markets demanding the fuel-saving hybrid technology.
Hybrid technology combines an electric motor with a combustion engine to reduce fuel consumption because it can use battery power, especially in slow city traffic. The batteries are recharged during braking and normal running.
Porsche will decide by April where it will build the Panamera. The V10 to V12 engines will be supplied by the Stuttgart- Zuffenhausen plant.
